I wrote this 19 years ago today, during a reflection upon a summer crush I had that year. It turns out that the feelings were not mutual, so I wrote a piece to help bring me closure. I should add that I was living in a very northern climate at the time. 😉
***
Once upon a very magic time
Far away from here
Next to me stood a very magic one
As the first rays of sun disappeared
It’s OK, I can stay for a while
I don’t have to leave this place
The magic one is mine for now
Without having to be erased
You haunt me like the leaves changing color
And falling from the trees
We drifted away like feathers in the night
But we were anything but free
Like every magic time I knew that this would end
As the leaves glow a bright gold
The sun slips behind the milky winter clouds
And everything goes cold
The magic slips away like a river
The remnants stale and old
And only I bear the memories
No one else has to know
You haunt me like the leaves changing color
And falling from the trees
We drifted away like feathers in the night
But we were anything but free
The next year I saw the magic one
With another by his side
But the other will learn that though he’s beautiful
He has nothing inside
I will walk forever knowing
That I have loved and lost
And I’m potently reminded
As October brings the frost
You haunt me like the leaves changing color
And falling from the trees
We drifted away like feathers in the night
But we were anything but free

So very true. I think sometimes the love I have for a feeling and the love I have for person are two seperate things.

Oh man, that reminded me of the post I wrote earlier. I still don’t know how it’s possible for me to love someone and know I don’t want to be with them. Has that ever happened to you before?
Anyway, very beautifully written.

A wonderful poem, Laina. I especially enjoy the last line, the summary “we are free”. 😉

You may be wrong about its legitimacy, still its potentially misleading, you are not all wrong, certainly not dead wrong 🙂

Oops, I just realised I left my comment on the wrong post, this was meant for your other post, I guess you know which … that’s very misleading of me, sorry!😆 😅 😂
